| A very old and interesting Teke ancestor fetish figure from the DRC ~ formerly Zaire. Carvings of figures (Butti) bear facial resemblances to those of Teke men. They gain special power by the addition of organic material (Bonga) placed in a cavity or attached to the body such as the bundles adorned with feathers. This Teke figure which has a cowry shell centered in his headdress is one of the finest, old, authentic Teke figure I have ever seen. These figures are individually owned and serve protective or healing functions. This figure measures 23 1/2" in height and has a rich old patina |
