| The Tabwa live southwest of Lake Tanganyika near the Zambia border. They created sculptures that served as intermediaries between chiefs and their forebears who were called to protect the villages. Scarification patterns on the face and torso of Tabwa figure sculpture represent philosophical concepts relating to social values and the harmony of natural forces.
