| A very rare Suku protective figure from the people of the DRC ~ formerly Zaire. Figure sculpture of the Suku people appears to have been strongly influenced by the neighboring Yaka, although it is far more conservative in its treatment of facial features and coiffure. This figure was made as a protective figure similar to the Yaka (pumbu) and was designed to hold ingredients from nature to give it power (matenda). This figure while serving as a protective device still holds powerful preparations enclosed in the sack. The figure measures 14" in height. |
