A beautiful old Baule portrait mask from the people of the Ivory Coast measuring 15 1/2" in height.The Baule are one of the Akan peoples.  They moved west to the Ivory Coast more than 200 years ago and adopted masking traditions from their neighbors, the Guro, Senufo and Yaure peoples.A Baule portrait mask is commissioned by a friend or other patron.  It honors a man or woman who is admired for beauty of character, along with other life accomplishments.
